New look. Prolly won’t stay this way. Comments still exist; they’re just not being counted for some reason. Also need to restore people’s registrations. Work in progress, etc etc.

UPDATE: Everything restored & working. Cheers for your comments.

    richface gets first comment on Solemnibus III! Yeah!

  2. jono says:

    don’t want to be an alarmist, but there is some serious problems with duplication in the ‘links’ section

  3. Hey that’s really pretty.

  4. Deborah says:

    I love this. But can you make this column wider relative to the links columns?

  5. inti says:

    dear Arin
    I would like my name to be re-spelt, not as in the grain, but as in spelling to correct it. I am Inti, as opposed to into. But dont worry, I’m not offended as i spell people’s names wrong all the time. (the mistake occurs on the link to our – jono and I – blog)
    Thanks Aron!

  6. Aaron says:

    O dear, sorry Inti!

    Deborah – yes, but it means adjusting the pictures at the top. I may do it sometime.

  7. Aaron, Init make a joke you missed. By the way, this site looks way better, and is more cell friendly. I’m just not happy about the enormous amount of space that’s being wasted from mid-screen through to the right side.

    Is there a way, as many are suggesting, and by many I mean Deborah and myself, to broaden the current column? And maybe admit that the categories of ‘Fun’ and ‘Family’ and ‘History’ haven’t been prolific additions to the Solemnibus lore?

  8. Aaron says:

    Hey Dan, what was the joke that I missed?

    I will likely broaden the column but other things come first…

    As for the categories – I’m a bit torn about them. I’ve started reducing them but at the same time i like the granularity. Also, I want to somehow reduce the overt theologising. I don’t know how.

  9. Hey, the joke was “aron” at the end. It was funny. She’s pretty humorous, for an American.

    I know what you mean Az, it’s just that there’s so much information, and so many categories. Maybe a look at a broader category that produces a drop-down picklist of similar topics?

    Nice looking, but the usability seems a bit low. Quite a narrow main column with tiny font, and the links are fairly hard to distinguish. Perhaps you could (re)move the Meta column and expand the main one and up its font size?

  11. Aaron says:

    Cheers Ben and Dan, thinking through options. Agree about the narrowness, and strongly considering removing the meta column.

    Ben, will reply to your comment about post-modernism at some point too.

  12. Richard D. Bartlett says:

    Don’t listen to them Aaron. There is zero need to increase the size of this column. This column is for large blocks of text – when it comes to bulk text, narrow is definitely good.

    The aesthetic is excellent, If it were me I’d keep things exactly as-is, but specify _everything_ in relative sizes so increasing the text size would increase the column width and the size of the header images.

    Alternatively, if you don’t like the idea of resizing the images, you could:

    - start with one massive image for the header, say 1600px wide and 200px tall;
    - then redefine each column so that they actually start from the very top of the page, with a solid pale green strip as a background image aligned to the right side of each column;
    - then just push the content of each column down 200px;
    - the result being that the main image would remain static, just the positioning of the green bars slicing through it would change with varying column sizes.

    Give me money, I’ll implement this for you.

    RDB : It’s wordpress! You’re going above his head!

  14. Aaron says:

    Thanks, RDB. I keep bouncing between thinking that it’s good for the reasons that you suggest, and bad because at first I got annoyed with the scrolling.

    Sam. Have more faith.

  15. Aaron says:

    RDB – I really like the layout of http://www.aldaily.com. So much potential info, all well-introduced, and none overwhelming. Have been turning this over in my head too.

    PS. I have no money.

  16. Richard D. Bartlett says:

    In the case of having no money, I’ll also consider accepting good karma.

    I think I can see you on that boat, sunbathing on the top deck.
